Irish Soda Bread

As with most of my recipes, this is a blend of various recipes found on the internet. I usually mix and match recipes so that all of the ingredients are things that I usually have in my pantry. This recipe has one notable exception - buttermilk. It was just too good of an ingredient to be left out.

Ingredients

5 cups white flour
1/2 cup oats
1 pint buttermilk
1 egg
1/2 tsp salt
1 tsp baking soda
1 tbs baking powder
1/4 white sugar
1 cup raisins (boiled, then drained)

Instructions

Mix all ingredients in mixer, using a dough hook. Turn dough out onto a floured table and knead with flour until the outside is de-gooified. (Yes, that is the technical term for it.) Split the dough in half. Form each half into a round loaf. Cut a cross in the top of each loaf. Bake in a 350°F oven for 45 minutes, or until it sounds hollow when rapped from the bottom. Cool on a rack.
